What are the main inspection items involved in steel wire rope inspection?
2025-11-20

1. Visual inspection by appearance

Broken wire detection: Statistically analyze the visible number of broken wires, their distribution locations (such as local concentration or uniform distribution), and the types of broken wires (fatigue broken wires, wear broken wires, etc.).

Wear inspection: Measure the wear amount of the steel wire rope diameter to determine whether the cross-section has been reduced due to friction.

Rust detection: Check whether there is rust or pitting on the surface and evaluate the impact of rust on the strength of the steel wire rope.

2. Internal defect detection

Internal broken wire detection: By using non-destructive testing techniques such as ultrasonic waves and electromagnetic induction, the invisible broken wires inside the steel wire rope are detected.

Internal rust detection: By means of non-destructive testing methods, the degree of rust between the strands and wires inside the steel wire rope is determined.

Core condition inspection: Check whether the fiber core or steel core is damaged or loose, as well as the lubrication condition of the core.

Deformation detection: Identify whether there are any twisting, bending, cage-like distortion, local diameter increase or decrease and other deformation conditions.

3. Dimension and deviation detection

Diameter inspection: Measure the diameter of the steel wire rope at different cross-sections and in different directions to verify whether it meets the standard requirements.

rding to the usage requirements, confirm whether the actual length of the steel wire rope meets the design or usage requirements.

Lay length testing: Measure the lay length of the steel wire rope (the length of each strand wound around the rope core once) to determine if there is any lay length variation.

4. Mechanical property testing

Breaking tensile force testing: The maximum breaking tensile force of the steel wire rope is determined through tensile tests to evaluate its load-bearing capacity.

Elastic modulus testing: It tests the elastic deformation characteristics of steel wire ropes to reflect their stiffness performance.

Simulate actual operating conditions, conduct fatigue tests, and determine the fatigue resistance life of the steel wire rope.
